I remember, when my sister and I were young, we'd get so excited when our parents let us order 'Shirley Temples' at a restaurant to celebrate something. This drink uses one of the incredible grape nectars from Domaine Santé in a rif of this classic mocktail. I replaced grenadine with Bored-O Rouge nectar which comes from cabernet, merlot, and malbec grapes and provides "jammy" flavor with "berry and currant aromas".

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz
Domaine Sante Bored-O Rouge Grape Nectar

  • 0.5 oz
    Ginger Syrup

  • 2.0 oz
    Still Water

Instructions

  • Garnish

  • orange, cherries, mini-umbrella

  • Build

  • Shake & Strain

  • Glass

  • Hurricane

I have a PhD in chemistry, which is basically just mixology you're not supposed to drink, so the shift from lab to bar was pretty obvious.

Add ingredients over ice. Shake. Strain into a hurricane glass packed with ice. Top with seltzer. Give a light stir. Garnish with an orange slice, maraschino cherries, and a tiny umbrella.

Editor's Note

Domaine Santé's grape nectar replaces cloying grenadine, bringing jammy, tannic depth to this elevated non-alcoholic classic. Ginger syrup adds a necessary spicy backbone.
